3 Things Not Included in a Basic Home Inspection

You want to know what shape your home is in so you scheduled a home inspection. That’s a great idea. Inspecting your home is one of the best ways to keep tabs on your home. That said, some things aren’t included in a basic home inspection. As a homeowner, it’s wise to know what those things are so you can decide if you need additional testing.

Radon Testing

Radon is invisible, odorless, and tasteless. It’s pretty much impossible to detect if you don’t test for it. That can be a real problem because exposure to harmful levels of radon can damage the lungs and even lead to lung cancer. In fact, radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking. If you consider the fact that lung cancer is responsible for more deaths than any other type of cancer, it becomes obvious that this is one gas you don’t want to mess around with. While radon testing isn’t included in a basic home inspection, you can still get your home tested through a radon gas test from Behind The Scenes Home Inspections.

Termite Inspections

Most people have heard horror stories about the damage termites can wreak on a home. Unfortunately, basic home inspections don’t include inspections for termites or other wood-destroying organisms. While termites are rarer in Utah than in other areas, subterranean termites can still threaten your home. The good news is that you can still have your home inspected for termites and other wood-destroying organisms by scheduling an inspection with Behind The Scenes Home Inspections.

We do check for visible signs of termites with the inspection, but to do a full termite inspection with the detailed paperwork it would require a termite inspection added to it.

Mold Testing

Utah is a desert, but that doesn’t stop mold from growing in homes. Mold growth can trigger allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems. The tricky thing about mold growth is that it doesn’t always happen where it’s easy to spot. Mold can grow behind the paint on your walls without you even knowing it's there. Sometimes an inspection is the only way to discover it, but mold testing isn’t included in basic home inspections. Fortunately, you can still get your home tested for mold by scheduling a mold testing service through Behind The Scenes Home Inspections.

Just because basic home inspections don’t usually include radon testing, termite inspections, and mold testing doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have those tests done. Those things can threaten your home and your health. Fortunately, you don’t have to look far to find someone to do them for you. Behind The Scenes Home Inspections offers these and other tests in addition to our basic home inspection services. All you have to do is contact us!
